Great-tailed Grackle
Quiscalus mexicanus
Synopsis:
Nesting was
confirmed for the first time in Oregon one year prior to
the project, at Malheur National Wildlife Refuge.
Single individuals of a related species, Common Grackle (Quiscalus quiscula), were
identified during the 1999 breeding season near Sycan Marsh
(Lake County) and Port Orford (Curry County, but were likely vagrants.
Habitat Associations:

Edges of Freshwater Marsh (4097 acres)
some
Lake/Pond Shoreline & Islands (27933 acres)
Relative Detectability:
Easy to detect by sight and song, and fairly easy to
confirm breeding.
Challenge:
Determine if this periodic immigrant gets established at other
locations in Oregon.
